Mine Dust Suppression

A big part of the mining industry involves the creation of dust. Naturally, this is an undesirable part of the mining process and requires various methods to be employed in an effort to suppress the dust.
There are a number of reasons why it is important to use appropriate dust control methods in the workplace. The presence of fine dust particles in the atmosphere is an undesirable and unhealthy way to go about the daily job. The hazards are not limited merely to the health problems but also to the industrial side of things.
That being said, health problems involved with the presence of dust include respiratory problems, irritation to the eyes and throat and irritation to the skin. A secondary health risk involved with high levels of dust is that it reduces the visibility on the site and this can lead to accidents.
Other risks involve the industrial site as well where the possibility of fire or explosion is increased, equipment can become damaged through their prolonged exposure to dust, bad odors on the site and, again, the visibility on the site can reduce the effective work output being produced.
An effective way of suppressing dust on the worksite is with a watering system of some sort. Different parts of the worksite might require different types of water systems depending on the amount of dust that is present, the state it is in (whether it is airborne or settled on the ground) and the size of the dust particles.
Misting systems are most effective for fine airborne dust that remains hanging in the air for long periods of time. The small water droplets bind with the dust particles to bring them quickly to the ground. Access roads may require large-scale watering systems although wetting the road in this way only provides a short-term solution that must be re-applied. Misting systems not only reduce the amount of water required but can also operate for longer periods of time making it a more effective solution.
The containment of dust can be achieved with a number of different dust suppression methods. It would be wise to explore all options before making a decision on the way to go.
